I’ve recently got back into Minecraft modding, and I’m starting to rewrite this mod from scratch. There will be a few differences between the new version and the one from a few years ago:
- This will be written with Minecraft Forge, so it should be 100% compatible with other mods.
- I have become far more proficient at Java in the past few years, so the mod will be written better and more quickly.
- It will be for Minecraft 1.9.
- Eventually I hope to add support for a configuration file where users can create their own trees.
I got to this point a few days ago, but I have been having problems generating the branches in the right direction, in the right place, and in the right pattern. I had it working, but then It broke again. Hopefully I will be able to release it within the next few days.
Version 0.1.0 released! Requires Minecraft Forge.
In the miscellaneous tab of the creative inventory there are four leaf-like blocks, all called “Growth Blocks.” If you place the block on top of a leaf, wood, grass, or dirt block it will create a tree that grows upward continuously.

Yesterday, I spent about an hour working on this mod. I got it so that the growth blocks will grow new trees with growth blocks on top. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t grow continuously, due to a bug that I know exactly how to fix, but didn’t have the time yesterday.
I just started this mod today, although I spent a few hours yesterday learning how to use minecraft forge. Currently the mod adds one block, exactly identical to leaves. Eventually, the block will provide the basis for this mod, as it will be what generates new tree branches.
